Courbettes & Cabrioles
Artist: Francoise Faconnet
Year: 1962, circa 1986, 1993
Literature: from 1993 scarfbook
“Even though the design of this scarf was inspired by the refined esthetics of the Chateau of Versailles, the bowing is not that of the members of the court prostrating themselves at the feet of their king. It is the horse in motion here, captured in all his youth, grace and high spirits by a sharp and knowledgable eye such as that of the engraver [J.E.] Riedinger, whose work inspired these images. . . .”
From the 1962 catalogue:
Check out Figures d’Equitation and Nouveau Manege for other Hermes carres based on Riedinger engravings.
Ref. 1366
One of my absolute favorites.
